The meeting began at 11:30 a.m. The meeting was opened by Don Moore who introduced our Toastmaster of the Day and new president, Ashok Ambardekar. Ashok took a few minutes to thank the group for the support he has received over the last year, which has enabled him to move into a leadership role. He also spoke about his visions for the next year. These included:

• More visibility on campus
• A greater emphasis on education
• Possibly having more seminars and group discussion to improve the evaluation skills of the group
• Videotaping speakers to enable them to have an overall picture of how they come across to an audience. Not only speaking skills, but also their use of body language.

The Word of the day, given by Oz Findlay, was ‘Sophisian Greek word for "know it all" or "braggart".

The thought of the day, presented by Lenore Huffman, came from a book of Daily Affirmations by Hazelton.

Jane Liu was the assigned speaker of the day. Her topic was "Feng Shui 101". Successful completion of this speech would enable her to reach ATM Bronze. Angie Upshur provided the evaluation of Jane’s speech.

Pat McHale performed an Induction Ceremony for the 5 new members:

Mentors were assigned to each new member.

Don Moore was the Table Topics Master and used the ‘Chris Sherer’ method of placing individual slips of paper in a cup, each containing one or two words. The topics covered were:

Pat McHale - "Methology"
Eloise Rubincam - "Family"
Jean Ryan - "Commuting"
Paul McCeney - "Social Activism"
Chris Sherer - "Birth Control"

Carolyn Ng was voted "best table topics respondent".

The next meeting will be held on July 28, 1999, in Bldg 28, room E210 at 11:30.

Bill Pullen and Herman Gallardo are planning the picnic. Neither was present at this meeting to provide any details, so stay tuned!
