MINUTES FOR 2/25/98 CLUB MEETING

The meeting started at 11:35 A.M.. The Toastmaster of the Day was Jeff Bolognese. There were three prepared speeches : Don Moore gave Speech #3 from the Basic Manual on "Those Annoying Speed Humps"; Carl Taylor gave his Ice Breaker speech on "Déjà vu All Over Again"; and Angie Upshur gave Speech #3 from the Basic Manual on "Give Them the Boot".

Each member rotated to be the Table Topics leader and respondent. Tex Baird responded on "Do you think Kenneth Star is effectively spending your money?"; Jane Liu shared on "What would you pick for the best motion picture award ?"; John Dennis responded to "What sport do you think should be removed from the Olympics?"; Carl Taylor gave the response to whether the U.S. should go to war with Iraq; Chris Scherer gave his thoughts on how to deal with unwanted telemarket calls; Jim McLean talked about his philosophy on "buy-outs"; and Don Moore commented on why the movie, Titanic, is so popular.

The General Evaluator was Chris Scherer. Martha O'Bryan evaluated Don Moore. Eva Illescas-Stattel evaluated Carl Taylor. Regina Cody evaluated Angie Upshur. Evette Brown-Conwell served as the Whisker Counter and Grammarian. The Time Keeper was Bill Pullen. Ye Hong was the Ballot Counter.

The best Table Topics respondent and the best speaker were Carl Taylor. The best evaluator was Regina Cody.

Area 45 Speech and Evaluation Contest will be on Friday, March 20, 1998 at EER Systems Building. Angie Upshur and Regina Cody will represent our club for speech and evaluation contest. Angie Upshur will give her speech the executive committee meeting on March 18th, in Building 11, Room C104, at noon. All member are welcome to attend the meeting and give Angie advice to help her prepare for the Area 45 competition.
