MINUTES FOR 11/12/97 CLUB MEETING

The meeting started at 11:35 A.M.. The Toastmaster of the Day was Evette Conwell. There were two prepared speeches : Jeff Bolognese presented #1 speech from the Interpretive Reading Manual titled "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"; and Herman Gallardo presented #3 speech from the Basic Manual titled "Opa ! One of the Three Things You Don't Want to Miss in Your Lifetime".

The Table Topics Master was Angie Upshur. There were five Table Topics contestants : Connie Houchens and Jane Liu shared about their favorite desserts; Dan Mandl talked about his favorite food; Regina Cody talked about her favorite thing for breakfast; and Pat McHale shared about his favorite drink.

The General Evaluator was Barry Sherman. Oswin Findlay evaluated Jeff Bolognese. Jeane Ryan evaluated Herman Gallardo. The Whisker Counter was Bill Pullen. The Time Keeper was Ye Hong. Grammarian was Herb Blodget. Chris Scherer was the Ballot Counter.

The best Table Topics was Dan Mandl. The best evaluator was Jeane Ryan. The best speaker was Herman Gallardo. v During the Division D contest on October 31, 1997, participants from District 36 won second place in the speech contest, and first place in the Table Topics. The next event will be the Fall Conference on November 15, 1997 located at the Comfort Inn Hotel and Conference Center (U.S. 50, U.S. 301, at Md-3) in Bowie, Md.

On November 26, 1997, we are going to have a special guest speaker, the Center Director, Mr. Joe Rothenberg, titled "What communication skills you believe will be essential in moving Goddard into the 21st century ?".

The Christmas party will be on December 17, 1997 in Building 28, Room E-210.

On January 28, 1998, there will be joint meeting with Space Speakers. Dan Mandl will show a video on "what's in a winning speech ?"
