MINUTES FOR 3/25/98 GODDARD TOASTMASTERS CLUB MEETING

The meeting started at 11:30 A.M.. The Toastmaster of the Day was Bill Pullen. Martha O'Bryan gave the Word of the Day "Ubiquitous", Bill Pullen gave the Thought of the Day. There were three prepared speeches : Eva Stattel gave Speech #5 from the Basic Manual, "Autobiography Number One"; Jeff Bolognese Speech #2 from the Advance Manual, Interpretive Reading, "Jabberwocky"; and Jeane Ryan gave Speech #1 from the Advanced Manual, Speaking to Inform, "Correct Being Miss Informed".

Regina Cody was the Table Topic Master. Regina selected teams of two people to respond to interpersonal situations she created. Karen Pham and Carl Taylor were the telemarketing/recipient team. Kelly Maltagliati and John Dennis were husband/wife team with teenage driver with learner's permit. Jane Liu and Angie Upshur were supervisor/employee team. Barry Sherman and Martha O'Bryan had a debate on "Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO), can HMO's provide the most effective and cost efficient health care".

The General Evaluator was Carolyn Ng. Chris Scherer evaluated Eva Stattel. Pat Greco evaluated Jeff Bolognese. Pat McHale evaluated Jeane Ryan. The Whisker Counter was Martha O'Bryan. The Grammarian was Oz Findlay. The Time Keeper was Barry Sherman. Angie Upshur was the Ballot Counter.

The best Table Topics respondents were Barry Sherman and Martha O'Bryan. The best evaluator was Pat McHale, and the best speaker was Jeff Bolognese.

Angie Upshur won third place in the Area 45 Speech Contest on March 20, 1998. There was just one point difference between the second and third place winners. Regina Cody won the first place in the Evaluation Contest. District 36, Division D, International Speech and Evaluation Contest will be on Friday, May 1, 1998 at Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission in Laurel, Md. Regina Cody will represent our club in the evaluation contest.
